In view of the rising accidents and related deaths due to 'Drink & Drive' across the state, the Transport Minister directed the department officials to ensure strict vigilance over the shops having late night licenses of liquor selling.

The Road Safety Council, led by the Minister also adopted the resolution of directing the Education Department to ensure that officers from the departments concerned organise counselling sessions for students in every school and enlighten them about the road safety rules & ways of driving.

Business Northeast asked the Minister whether issuance of license be made stricter as many people lack the proper skill to drive. To this Suklabaidya answered in an affirmative way.

He further informed Business Northeast that there will be Close Circuit (CC) C Cameras in the highways to monitor the movements of vehicles but there is no plan to install CC cameras in gullies and lanes of the city.

The General Secretary of All Assam Vehicle Dealers Association was urged to ensure that all dealers (both two-wheelers and four-wheelers) organize such counselling sessions mandatorily for all drivers while delivering the vehicles.

The Road Safety Council was also directed to ensure that DTOs of every district carry out enforcement drives rigorously in all urban and rural areas a day every week to make others aware to follow the road safety rules.
