Sumita Enterprise, a recently introduced brand focused on showcasing traditional products from Northeast India, is quickly attracting interest due to its distinctive offerings. The company was created with the aim of highlighting the skilled work of native artists, specifically in sustainable handicrafts and handwoven textiles. The concept for Sumita Enterprise originated from the founders' observations in the event planning industry, where they identified an increasing need for eco-friendly products. Acknowledging the value of Assam's diverse heritage, they worked together with family and local craftsmen to create a variety of items that showcase the area's one-of-a-kind cultural heritage.

In a recent conversation with Business Northeast Mr. Majumdar said  "the name of the brand is dedicated to the founders' mother, Sumita, who has been a vital source of support and inspiration. They personally funded the initial investment of around ₹5 lakhs, showing their dedication to local entrepreneurship." Sumita Enterprise mainly specializes in items crafted from Kona grass, bamboo, and traditional handicrafts. "We have products for every budget, from inexpensive bamboo pens starting at ₹20 to luxurious furniture pieces valued at around ₹30,000. The founders stress quality and affordability, making sure their products appeal to a wide range of customers.

"Customers from locations outside Assam have shown a very positive reaction to the product. The brand has discovered a thriving market in the southern region of India, where consumers value the originality and skill of products from the Northeast. Their involvement in expos has increased their exposure, resulting in partnerships with well-known brands and personalized requests.Sumita Enterprise plans to enhance their logistics and shipping processes to guarantee the secure delivery of products domestically and internationally, in addition to diversifying their product range. Prioritizing sustainability and involving the community, the company hires local artisans, including numerous housewives, offering them chances for extra earnings and maintaining traditional crafts.

In the future, Sumita Enterprise aims to exhibit its products on a global scale. With a focus on sustainability and community engagement, the brand employs local artisans, many of whom are housewives, providing them with opportunities for side income while preserving traditional crafts. The founders are dedicated to maintaining the quality of their offerings while keeping prices accessible, believing that everyone should have the opportunity to own a piece of Northeast heritage.
