The 7th Northeast Green Summit is going to take place this November 2022 in Meghalaya. The theme of the summit is Balancing people, Planet, Profit: Sustainable NE India and BIMSTEC region. It is about sustainable lifestyle in the NE Green Summit .
The three-day event aims to celebrate the integrated approach to sustainable development. The Summit strive towards preserving, maximizing and developing the potential of the unique biodiversity zone of Northeast India through various awareness programmes highlighting amongst other topics like various sustainable livelihood options, associated skills and others.
Many sustainable start-ups from the NE region will be a part of the summit.

The summit will help to establish partnerships with various stakeholders, network with various policymakers and budding entrepreneurs and showcase their achievements in adopting green practices, products and services.
Highlights of the event:
The Rhythm of the Hills will be participating in the summit. The traditional dance form, SIYOM, will be performed which is an experimental folk song.
The Bottle Rockets of India, one of the most popular band of NE will also be a part of this event. A music competition will be held and mentorship will be provided by the band.
Filmmaking on zero waste lifestyle under the mentorship by Green Hub.
Sustainable accommodation (camping) will be provided by Encamp Adventures- Northeast’s top provider for sustainable travel and tourism.
The summit will host a NE Chief Minister’s Round Table which will be moderated by the UNEP. Discussions are to be held on climate change and challenges faced by environmental issues will be discussed.
Midway journey, a Guwahati-based NGO which focuses on waste management is also a part of the summit. The Midway Journey along with the collaboration of NorthEast Waste Collective will hold the first ever NorthEast Zero Waste MeetUp which will focus on the challenges of environmental sustainability where a major part of youngsters from the NE region will be a part.
The wastes which will be generated in this event will be composted or recycled.
“This year the major focus is on the youths of the NE from the schools to colleges and to guide them on why it is important to lead a sustainable lifestyle,” said Shirshendu Shekhar Das, Founder of The Midway Journey. He also said that Tieddi Forest from Darjeeling and Sustainable Indian who are big influencers in waste management will also be a part of the summit.
Encamp Adventures will host zero-waste camping accommodations for a lot of students and visitors.
“We are doing two things in the summit, one is holding zero waste accommodation to the visitors and also organizing an outreach program targeting the schools and institutions of Meghalaya and Assam,” said Ratan Kumar, Co-founder of Midway Journey.
