New Delhi: Girish Mahajan, the Medical Education Minister of Maharashtra, has revealed ambitious proposals to greatly improve the state's medical education facilities by setting up new colleges in 12 districts. This effort intends to meet the increasing need for medical education among students in Maharashtra.

During the last nine years, there has been a significant growth in the number of medical seats available in Maharashtra. In order to accommodate the increasing demand and support future growth, the state government predicts that Rs 18,000 crore will be needed by 2030 to build and run these new colleges. To ensure they have enough funding, Maharashtra has taken the proactive step of borrowing Rs 8,000 crore from the Asian Development Bank. A significant amount of this money will go towards building new colleges in different districts, with the rest set aside for improving current infrastructure. This strategic plan also aims to address the current deficit of a minimum of 10,000 hostel spaces throughout the state, guaranteeing sufficient housing for students studying medicine.

At the same time, NBCC's affiliate, HSCC (India) Ltd., has secured a major contract worth Rs 411.45 crore from the Maharashtra government. HSCC (India) Ltd. will be responsible for supervising the building of a modern medical college and hospital in Buldhana as per the terms of this agreement. The project involves constructing a government medical college that can house 100 students and a 430-bed hospital facility. With its vast expertise in project management consultancy and real estate ventures, NBCC is ready to take on a crucial role in guaranteeing the successful implementation of this ambitious healthcare infrastructure project.

These strategic actions highlight Maharashtra's unwavering dedication to strengthening healthcare and medical education facilities throughout the state. The expansion is designed to both satisfy the increasing need for skilled healthcare professionals and open up new opportunities for future medical student.
