CM Dedicates Two-Lane Bridge Over River Kopili on Jagiroad-Morigaon Road

The Chief Minister of  Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a crucial two-lane RCC bridge over the River Kopili on the Jagiroad-Morigaon road at a ceremony in Morigaon on February 1.

Speaking at the event, Sarma highlighted that the plan for constructing the bridge at Jagi Bhakatgaon in Morigaon had been pending for 20 years. However, under his government, the project was prioritized and completed within 20 months at a cost of Rs. 80.24 crore. He emphasized that the government is actively working to complete many such stalled projects across the state, benefitting lakhs of commuters with improved connectivity.

Describing Morigaon as a district rich in spiritual, cultural, and natural heritage, Sarma announced a series of developmental initiatives for the region. He noted the district's historical significance, being influenced by the legacy of Gova Roja and the Gova Kingdom, and affirmed the government's commitment to bringing Morigaon on par with the state's more developed districts.

As part of the government's efforts to foster an enabling ecosystem around the upcoming Semiconductor Facility in Jagiroad, Sarma also launched the Assam Electronics and Semiconductor Logistics Park. Spanning over 600 bighas, the park will serve as a hub for industrial development and will include institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalaya, hotels, and a hospital.

The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to protecting the rights and culture of the Tiwa community, ensuring the preservation of their ethnic identity. He announced that the State government would soon introduce legislation to recognize the Buffalo fight of Ahotguri as a historic sport, highlighting the administration's dedication to safeguarding the rich art and culture of the Tiwa community.

Sarma also detailed the State government's plans to enhance connectivity between Jagiroad and Bhutan through a proposed 132 KM road linking Central Assam to the Himalayan nation. Additionally, he announced that plans for a new bridge over the Brahmaputra at Lahorighat would be revealed shortly.

Highlighting Assam's rapid development, Dr. Sarma cited the establishment of 20 universities, 25 medical colleges, 26 engineering colleges, and numerous bridges over the Brahmaputra as evidence of the state's evolving growth narrative.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sarma welcomed the income tax exemption up to Rs. 12 lakh, noting that it would enhance people's savings and positively impact economic growth. He also thanked the Central Government for the budgetary allocation for a 12 lakh MT Urea factory in Namrup.

The event was attended by Minister of Water Resources Pijush Hazarika, Minister of Cultural Affairs Bimal Bora, Member of Legislative Assemblies (MLA) Ramakanta Deuri and Sashikanta Das, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council Jiban Chandra Konwar, and other distinguished dignitaries.
