Sikkim CM Inspects Peacock Park Project at Baiguney

Guwahati : Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday inspected the proposed Peacock Park project at Baiguney in Soreng district. The eco-tourism project, under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore, is designed to promote sustainable tourism without damaging the local ecology and cultural heritage.

Posting to social media after the visit, the Chief Minister said he went through the suggested layout plans and evaluated the work progress on ongoing groundwork at the site. During the visit, the officials informed him about the project status as of now, presenting key timelines, design elements, and the wider scope of development projected to give a facelift to Baiguney and make it a top nature-based destination.

Emphasizing the importance of the project, Tamang added, "The project is full of promise for development of eco-tourism and conservation of the natural environment of the area."

He also emphasized the incorporation of sustainable design principles that reflect the richness of biodiversity and cultural heritage of the region. Highlighting the dual purpose of the park, the Chief Minister indicated that apart from providing recreational space, it should also be a representation of environmental conservation and local cultural identity.

The inspection of the site also involved meetings with officials, engineers, and other parties. The Chief Minister made useful inputs to ensure the project's timely and sustainable implementation.

Upon completion, Peacock Park will go a long way in boosting local tourism and meaningfully contributing to the region's ecological conservation and preservation of culture, as per the state government's wider developmental vision.
