Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off three new trains - Guwahati–New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger Train, and the Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express from the Guwahati railway station during his visit to Assam on January 3 to enhance connectivity in the region.

These facilities are expected to recover rail connectivity across Assam and neighbouring areas. Adding to the train facilities, Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually initiated the Tetelia Road Overbridge in Dispur, Guwahati, which is likely to ease traffic blockage and recover road safety.

He also took to his official social media account to announce the inspection of the upcoming semiconductor plant in Assam. “Reviewed the construction plan and inspected progress at the Tata semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, Assam,” Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted.

He further launched a 10 KW FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar, expanding FM coverage to a 70 km radius and improving broadcast quality for over 3 million residents in Kokrajhar and neighbouring districts.

As the Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw also reviewed the development of the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility under construction in Jagiroad, Morigaon district. This facility is an important asset of approximately Rs. 27,000 crore (around USD 3.6 billion), steady to become India's first innate semiconductor assembly and test ability expected to produce 48 million chips every day, catering to sectors such as motorized, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones.
