Shillong: IIM Shillong on June 20 organized a Management Development Program (MDP) for District Tourism Officers (DTOs) and Tourism Information Officers (TIOs) in Arunachal Pradesh, under the leadership of the state's Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The program, held at the IIM Shillong Satellite Centre in Tawang, aims to foster professional growth, drive economic advancement, and advocate for sustainable tourism practices.

The institution said in a statement, "The IIM Shillong Satellite Centre has evolved into a beacon of knowledge, dedicated to empowering local administrators and enhancing governance capabilities in Arunachal Pradesh. In collaboration with the Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong has launched initiatives promoting sustainable development and community empowerment."

The program, which was completed by members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), builds on previous MDPs for senior administrative officers of Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi. Brigadier V. S. Rajput, Commander of the 190 Mountain Brigade in Tawang, highlighted the potential of Tawang and Arunachal Pradesh as prime tourist destinations, emphasizing the importance of leveraging natural resources, preserving cultural heritage, enhancing infrastructure, and adopting sustainable tourism practices.

The MDP is structured around three key dimensions: economic development, marketing strategies, and sustainable development goals (SDGs). IIM Shillong said it is committed to driving sustainable development and innovation in the North-Eastern region of India.
