Assam Budget 2025-26: Rs 3,038 Crore Boost For Women Entrepreneurs, Girls’ Education

Guwahati: The Assam government has unveiled the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan under the Astadash Mukutar Unnoyonee Mala scheme, pointing to empowering women entrepreneurs across the state. The initiative, with an allocation of Rs. 3,038 crore, will be launched on April 1 from Behali LAC.

As part of the preparation, 30 lakh Self-Help Group (SHG) members from rural areas and 2 lakh women from urban areas will benefit. Each recipient will receive seed capital of Rs. 10000 to kick-start or increase their entrepreneurial activities.

This initiative, presented as part of the Assam Budget 2025-26, seeks to strengthen the financial independence of women and foster economic growth at the grassroots level.

In a significant push toward the education and empowerment of girls, the government has also announced the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina scheme under the Astadash Mukutar Unnoyonee Mala initiative. With an allocation of Rs. 391 crore, the arrangement aims to benefit 4.3 lakh girls throughout the state.

This initiative will provide financial provision to a new batch of girls entering their first year of studies while ensuring continued help for those progressing to the second year. The move is expected to improve educational access and retention rates among young girls, reinforcing Assam's commitment to gender-inclusive development.

The scheme, introduced in the Assam Budget 2025-26, reflects the government’s vision of fostering a brighter future for girls by equipping them with the necessary resources for academic and professional growth.
