Guwahati: Guwahati City Football Club (GCFC) has announced its team for the upcoming AIFF Futsal Club Championship 2023-24, with sponsorship from the Uttarayan Group.

GCFC is set to represent Assam in the third edition of the AIFF Futsal Club Championship, marking a historic first for the state. The championship will be held on June 23 in Vadodara, Gujarat. The team’s jersey was unveiled in the presence of several distinguished guests, including Sangrang Brahma, secretary of the Assam Football Association, Deepjyoti Baruah, director of Uttarayan Group, Ayussh Rathi, CEO of Uttarayan Builders and Developer, and Siddhartha Sankar Deka, director of GCFC.

In an exclusive video interview, Deepjyoti Baruah, Managing Director of Uttarayan Group, shared his enthusiasm: "I was a football player and once the secretary of Maharana Club, a 116-year-old club in Guwahati. Futsal doesn’t require much space as it is an indoor game with lower financial expenses. Uttarayan Group will support GCFC in developing the sport in Assam. We always aim to promote sports, and this opportunity to support GCFC is a source of pride for us. Supporting the first-ever Northeast Futsal team at the national level is a significant honor."

Uttarayan Group, a prominent real estate firm in Guwahati, has established a strong presence in the city with its state-of-the-art apartments and commercial spaces.

A GCFC member commented on the team's preparation, stating, "We have been preparing for a month, and this competition will provide valuable experience. Futsal is not a new sport in India; it enjoys global popularity and is steadily gaining traction in India and Assam. We hope that within the next five years, its popularity will grow, and more people will start loving the game. Futsal, a variant of football, has been played by world-renowned footballers like Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar at some point in their careers."
