The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the construction of 11 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and 26 Road Under Bridges (RUBs), enhancing connectivity and ensuring smoother, congestion-free drive for both road and rail traffic.

These interventions have bolstered operational safety, curtailed postponements, and enhanced overall transportation competence. During this period, NFR also completed the construction of 11 ROBs and 26 RUBs, enhancing connectivity and ensuring smoother, congestion-free drive for both road and rail traffic. This initiative is a testament to NFR’s dedication to delivering modern, reliable, and future-ready transportation answers.

The execution of these infrastructure projects involved coordinated efforts by various stakeholders, including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), different Railway Divisions, Construction Wings, and Deposit Agencies, working closely with State Governments and other local authorities.
Noteworthy achievements include:

•    ROBs at critical junctions in Dibrugarh, Kamrup Metro, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur.
•    RUBs and LHS structures in Alipurduar and Kokrajhar, enhancing underpass connectivity in densely populated regions.

Each project was strategically planned following detailed assessments of traffic density and local needs. High-traffic points, such as FM-57 in Jorhat and RM-257 in Lakhimpur, were equipped with durable and well-structured ROBs to maintain continuous and safe road-rail interaction. Meanwhile, less-trafficked areas saw effective solutions like direct closures to optimize resources.

Transforming the Transportation Ecosystem

The elimination of accident-prone level crossings has already begun reshaping the transport landscape across Northeast India. Key benefits include:
•    Enhanced safety for both road and rail users.
•    Reduced road congestion and travel delays.
•    Uninterrupted train operations, crucial for freight and long-distance passenger trains.
•    Boosted regional economies, especially in remote and border districts, by improving accessibility and trade logistics.

Outside safety and connectivity, these advancements also add to India’s climate goals. By reducing recurrent halts at level crossings, fuel consumption and releases have decreased—marking a positive shift toward sustainable transport infrastructure.

The NFR continues to push boundaries through advanced engineering, meticulous planning, and a strong collective framework.

Looking ahead, the zone remains committed to scaling up efforts that will improve speed, safety, and service delivery, ensuring the Northeast stays linked, competitive, and future-ready.
