Guwahati: Flooding is a major problem in Assam and has killed over 40 people during this year's monsoon season. In these dire circumstances, what is the government doing to protect tourists? Business North East reached out to officials to find out.

“Tourists are less during this season,” said an official of the Tourist Department of Assam. “The Kaziranga National Park is inundated. But, Kaziranga and all other national parks are closed."

As per the Wildlife Act, animals also need a “break period”. During this time, one cannot enter the park. The period of closure begins in May and lasts till mid-October”. It is decided by the Forest Department.

"The other tourist attractions are also not seeing many visits," the official added. "If somebody comes by themselves, even if not a season, then it is up to them. The guest houses and nearby dwelling places are in touch with the tourist department if needed."

The official clarified that there was no casualty of visitors or tourists due to the flood.
