New Delhi: The Ministry of Tourism has launched the Best Tourism Villages Competition to recognize villages that best represent a tourism destination that preserves cultural and natural assets, promotes community-based values and lifestyles, and has a commitment to sustainability in all aspects.
Applications were invited in various categories, including heritage, agri tourism, craft, responsible tourism, vibrant villages, adventure tourism, community-based tourism, and wellness.
In the first edition of the competition held in 2023, a total of 35 villages were recognized as Best Tourism Villages. Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided the information in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
The list of villages recognized as Best Tourism Villages includes Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Gujarat, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Puducherry, Punjab, West Bengal, Assam, Biswanath Ghat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, and Goa.
The winners were announced in various languages, including Tamil, Urdu, Hindi, Hindi_MP, Marathi, and Manipuri. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
