In an insightful interview with Business North East, Prof. Chandan Karfa and Dr. Sukanta Bhattacharjee of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) shared details about their groundbreaking machine learning tool, LEAP. This innovative tool promises to transform the microchip design process, a critical component in the $600 billion semiconductor industry.
According to Prof. Karfa, "LEAP not only expedites the design process by reducing evaluation time by over 50% but also improves circuit performance without additional space requirements. This represents a major leap forward in microchip design efficiency." Dr. Bhattacharjee further emphasized that LEAP reduces the number of design options evaluated by over 50%, achieving similar performance results with 63% fewer checks compared to traditional methods. This results in a faster, more efficient design process and a notable enhancement in performance.
The research, which was presented at a leading conference on computer-aided design, marks a significant advancement in the field. LEAP's development positions IIT Guwahati at the forefront of semiconductor technology, paving the way for future innovations and highlighting the institute's critical role in driving technological progress.
