Suprakash Adhikari has become the new Director (Technical) of NHPC Limited, India’s hydropower company and a Government of India Navratna Enterprise. Preceding his promotion, he worked as Executive Director (Operations and Maintenance) at NHPC.
A graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (formerly B.E. College), Shibpur, West Bengal, Adhikari began his expedition with NHPC in December 1990 as a Probationary Executive (Electrical) in the Quality Assurance Division at the Corporate Office.
With over 34 years of knowledge in the hydropower sector, Adhikari has played an important part across the entire project lifecycle—from inception to hiring—and in the operations and maintenance of power stations. As Executive Director (O&M and Safety), he spearheaded several initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, boost regulatory compliance, and streamline maintenance practices. These efforts led to record annual generation, the highest-ever Plant Availability Factor (PAF) and a significant reduction in forced outages.
In addition to his primary tasks, Adhikari held added charge of the Design (E&M) Division, where he backed the design and engineering of electro-mechanical packages for hydropower and pumped storage projects executed by NHPC and its branches or joint ventures.
His management was also instrumental in successfully commissioning the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydro Electric Project.
