PM inaugurates 5G services in India; 13 cities to be covered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on October 1.
While Airtel has confirmed that it will roll out 5G in eight cities, at the same time, Jio will bring 5G first to select cities, and plans to cover the entire country by 2023.
However, Vodafone Idea Ltd has not unveiled any plans yet.
The jointly organised event by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) opened today and will continue till October 4.
According to media reports, the main objective of the event is to promote new technologies with the theme this year being “Encapsulate, Engage and Experience a New Digital Universe”.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance, thanked PM Modi for inspiring the vision of a developed nation by 2047.
He said, “Every action and policy of the government is skillfully crafted to propel India, towards that goal. Steps taken to fast-track India’s march into the 5G era provide compelling proof of our Prime Minister’s determination."
He mentioned the possibilities of 5G in key areas like education, education climate etc.
It is to be mentioned that the 5G services will be rolled out in a phased manner. The 13 cities where 5G networks will first receive the coverage include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.
