India's forex reserves rise USD 223 mn to a fresh high of USD 689.45 bn

New Delhi: According to data released by the Reserve Bank on Friday, India's foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 223 million to reach a record high of USD 689.458 billion for the week ending on September 13. The total foreign exchange reserves had increased by $5.248 billion to reach a peak of $689.235 billion for the week ending on September 6.

The data indicated that in the week ending on September 13, foreign currency assets, which are a significant part of the reserves, decreased by USD 515 million to USD 603.629 billion. Stated in dollars, the foreign currency assets reflect changes in value of currencies such as the euro, pound, and yen in the foreign exchange reserves.

According to the RBI, gold reserves surged by USD 899 million to reach USD 62.887 billion in the week. The central bank announced that the Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) decreased by USD 53 million to reach USD 18.419 billion. According to data from the central bank, India's reserve position with the IMF fell by USD 108 million to USD 4.523 billion during the reporting week.
