New Delhi: EMS Ltd, a company in Ghaziabad that specializes in water and sewerage infrastructure, has been identified as the most cost-effective bidder for a Rs 681.49 crore contract put out by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for pollution abatement work on River Adi Ganga, according to a statement released on Friday. The Adi Ganga is a historic river of the Ganges that runs along the outskirts of urban Kolkata.
Thursday afternoon saw flooding in parts of Kalighat, Chetla, and areas near the stream due to a high tide. The rejuvenation project targets to cleanse the channel, which presently releases an offensive odor, and is intended to alleviate the issue of nearby areas being flooded.
As part of the Second National Ganga River Basin Project, the aim is to develop, construct, test, and put into operation infrastructure to decrease pollution in the Adi Ganga within a three-year timeframe. EMS will take on the responsibility of operating and managing sewage treatment plants and related infrastructure for 15 years after the project is finished, according to the company. EMS will carry out the project in collaboration with a partner, with ownership shares of 74 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively.
EMS Chairman Ramveer Singh expressed his joy at becoming the L1 bidder for this esteemed project, signaling the company's entry into eastern India. He mentioned that the company's board has authorized the raising of funds up to Rs 400 crore through Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) for carrying out various projects and increasing its order book. EMS, a company traded on the stock market, offers EPC and O&M services in sewerage solutions, water supply systems, and wastewater schemes for government authorities and local bodies in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan.
