New Delhi: India’s largest public sector bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), has handed over a dividend of Rs 8,076.84 crore to the central government for the financial year 2024–25. This marks a notable rise from last year’s payout of Rs 6,959.29 crore.

SBI Chairman C S Setty formally presented the dividend cheque to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday. The ceremony also saw the presence of Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju and Finance Secretary Ajay Seth. The Finance Minister’s Office shared the update on social media platform X, highlighting the dividend handover.

For FY 2024–25, SBI declared a dividend of Rs 15.90 per share, an increase over the Rs 13.70 per share it disbursed in the previous year, reflecting the bank’s strong financial performance.

The state-owned lender posted a record-breaking net profit of ₹70,901 crore for the year, up 16% from Rs 61,077 crore in FY 2023–24. The robust growth in earnings has enabled the bank to significantly enhance its dividend contribution to the government, which is the majority shareholder.

This substantial payout underscores the continued strength of the banking sector and SBI’s leading role in supporting the government's fiscal objectives.
