In a conversation with Business North East Mr Ishantor Sobhapandit , Regional Director of Indian Chamber of Commerce discusses important actions and upcoming strategies for promoting business growth in Northeast region. He said "ICC is actively promoting economic growth in the Northeast by concentrating on different sectors to connect entrepreneurs with market opportunities and bridge gaps". An important effort is the "Guest of the Month" program, designed to encourage conversation between industry executives and government officials. This month's event highlighted Assam's Chief Secretary discussing important industry issues and policy challenges. Future visitors will include Commissioner Pallab Jha, showcasing ICC's dedication to ongoing involvement.
He also adds that "ICC is helping local businesses receive substantial global recognition as well. Delegations from Assam, Meghalaya, and independent entrepreneurs will be present at both the Vietnam Food Expo from November 11-16 and the Abu Dhabi Food Expo on November 26. These activities aim to improve exposure and connections for local businesses".
Another important area of focus is providing support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as first-generation entrepreneurs. ICC offers counseling, market connections, and support in securing funding, guiding local startups through the challenges of starting a business. The conversation also emphasized the growing semiconductor sector as a possible economic benefit for the area.
ICC is pushing for local entrepreneurs to receive priority when setting up additional units, stressing the importance of skills training to guarantee job prospects for residents. In relation to Assam's tea industry, which is fundamental to its identity, ICC is investigating sustainable methods and different business structures to tackle issues like labor expenses and pesticide application. Creative suggestions, such as installing solar panels in tea plantations, are being reviewed to improve sustainability. In the future, ICC is preparing for its seventh Act as Business Show in Shillong, including seminars, exhibitions, and discussions on border trade and connectivity with Southeast Asia.
