Guwahati: Agri-business company Godrej Agrovet Limited has introduced a scientifically developed product range called 'Godrej Pride Hog' which ensures optimal nutrition at all stages of a pig's lifecycle. This feed range, with its variants such as - Starter, Grower, and Finisher, will be a 'ready-to-feed' for pigs at all stages, enhancing their health, immunity and growth while also improving farmer productivity and profitability.
A roundtable discussion on preventive measures against African Swine Fever (ASF) and best practices for pig farm management was organized as part of the launch event in Guwahati. The panel consisted of industry experts, including Purnananda Konwar, General Manager, Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation Ltd, and A.Y. Rajendra, CEO of Animal Feed Business, Godrej Agrovet.
While speaking at the event, Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, said pig farming is massively crucial in the Northeast, home to nearly 50 per cent of India's pig population. "Pride Hog is a research-backed feed solution that enhances pig health and maximizes growth potential, aligning with our commitment to empowering small and marginal farmers," Balram Singh Yadav said.
ASF is one of the very contagious viral swine diseases; since its outbreak in 2020, serious economic losses have occurred in the North East region of India. Thus far, there is no available vaccine, and management is fundamentally preventive through intense biosecurity, quarantine, and controlled pig movements and hygiene measures. Konwar also highlighted the region's vulnerability to ASF and the necessity of scientific approaches under initiatives such as the National Livestock Mission to build resilience in the sector.
The following are benefits associated with Pride Hog, a whole nutritional package produced to ensure satisfaction of needs during the life cycle of a pig. Among others, Pride Hog Starter-Pride Hog is a specialized package designed for piglets aged 2 weeks to 2 months, where the animal takes an average daily requirement of between 20 grams-1 kg. For pigs aged 2 to 4 months, the Pride Hog Grower variant offers the necessary nutrition, and the daily intake is 1.2 to 2.6 kilograms.
Lastly, the Pride Hog Finisher is designed for pigs aged 4 months until they are ready for trading, with a daily feed requirement of 2.8 to 3.5 kilograms. Each variant is designed to ensure optimal health, faster growth, and enhanced immunity at every stage.
The feed is formulated to prevent piglet mortality, reduce diarrhoea, and enhance immunity, ensuring faster growth and better overall health. Godrej Agrovet also focused its efforts on prevention through bio-security measures like restrictive access to a farm and disinfection along with hygiene practices. These new initiatives, apart from Pride Hog, reflect dedication towards sustainable as well as scientific solutions for the good health of their livestock and their farmer's enhanced livelihood.
