So how are matrimonial sites facilitating matches in a country of 1.4 billion people?
To start on the journey towards finding a suitable partner, a boy or girl has to create a profile in matrimonial websites like Shaadi.com and Jeevansathi.com, offering low, medium, and high-cost options. Think Facebook, but only for prospective grooms and brides. “We have a VIP facility for our top clients,” said a Shaadi.com agent. “ We arrange everything”, she said. " We have a free subscription but with payment, you will get better options." The groom or bride is selected after scrolling through thousands of profiles.
The wedding expenses include mehendi, sangeet, shadi, makeup, reels, drone shoot, and more. The average annual salary for a wedding video editor in India ranges from Rs.0.6 lakh to Rs 10.0 lakh, with an average annual salary of Rs. 3.0 lakh. In Assam, a normal teaser of 1.5 to 3 minutes costs Rs 5000- Rs 6000. Some videographers even earn lakhs per month.
Bridal make-up varies from person to person, with average beauticians charging Rs. 15,000 per wedding, while big brands like Lakme charge as high as Rs 21000 for more costly makeup. The venue can be either a simple banquet hall or a five-star hotel or a farmhouse, with prices ranging from Rs 10 lakh to 40 lakh depending on the location and time of the wedding.
India is the second-largest wedding market in the world, next only to the US, and the country's fourth-largest industry.
