5th August evening Guwahati city experienced nearly two hours of continuous rainfall, resulting in severe waterlogging issues. The downpour exacerbated traffic congestion and posed significant challenges for local shopkeepers, impacting their businesses adversely. This is a recurring issue in Lakhtokia, Guwahati, where heavy rains often lead to artificial floods and waterlogging problems, further exacerbated by the city's road infrastructure.
Reflecting on the recent rainfall, a distressed shopkeeper shared, "Due to continuous rain over the past five days, I have incurred losses amounting to approximately ₹20,000. Water had nearly inundated my store, forcing me to contemplate closing down temporarily." The situation underscores the vulnerability of businesses in the area to weather-induced disruptions, highlighting the urgent need for improved drainage and infrastructure measures to mitigate such impacts in the future.
