Assam signs MoUs worth Rs 3114 cr: creates new jobs

Guwahati: Assam government has signed six MoUs worth Rs 3114 cr with industry leaders across sectors, creating hundreds of new jobs and stimulating the local economy.

The event took place at Janata Bhawan, Dispur on September 23.

The MoUs were signed to set up mega industrial projects in various places of Assam. The Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the programme as the Chief Guest.

Sarma said that Assam is now considered as the safest place to invest by investors from outside.  

The MoU of Rs 3114 crores was signed with M/s Kesar Petro Products (Rs 2000) crores which will generate 200 direct and 1800 indirect employment, Longspan Structures Private Limited (Rs 129 crore) that will generate 220 direct and 180 indirect employment, M/S SBL Biscuits Private Limited (Rs139.14 crores) that will generate 200 direct and 180 indirect employment, M/S Umrangshu (India) Cements LLP (285 crores) which will generate 300 direct and 700 indirect employment, M/s Sunit Breweries Private Limited (Rs 151 crores) which will generate and 200 indirect employment and M/s Jericho Foods and Beverage LLP (Rs. 410 crores) that will generate 300 direct and 500 indirect employment.

A lease agreement was also signed between Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and Jenipro Hotels Private Limited. As per the agreement a 5 star hotel will be constructed at Kaziranga with an investment of Rs 100 crores. The Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah informed that this will generate employment opportunities for local youth in Assam.

The Minister  of Industries and  Commerce and Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam Bimal Borah attended the programme and expressed his optimism  due to such efforts. 

Speaking to Business Northeast Dr Lakshmanan S Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Department, Assam said “This is the second ceremonial signing of MoU following the earlier one on 9th May 2023, where Rs 8,201 Crore worth MoUs were signed with 8 companies including Pepsico, Dalmia Cements, Star Cements, DS Group etc.

With these two MoU signing ceremonies, 14 companies with an overall investment about  Rs 11, 300 crores and more than 20,000 employment generation potential have been onboarded with customized incentives.

The industrial friendly atmosphere in the state and absolutely responsive and responsible government have attracted significant enthusiasm from the industrial entrepreneurs across the country to invest in Assam”

Lakshmanan was grateful to the participating companies and hope this will enthuse more investment in Assam.
