Shillong: Meghalaya's commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation was on full display during the three-day North East Entrepreneurship Machinery Innovation & Exhibition (NEEMIE) 2023 held in Shillong from September 20 to 22. The event, organized by Meghalaya PRIME (Promotion & Incubation of Market-Driven Enterprises) in collaboration with SCSTE (State Council of Science, Technology, and Environment), aimed to empower small-scale business owners throughout the North East region.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of cultivating an entrepreneurial culture and ecosystem within the state. He stated, "An exhibition where machinery and other innovations are needed to support the rural entrepreneurs so that both entrepreneurs and farmers can benefit from the appropriate machines. This is an incredible chance for entrepreneurs to learn about and use the various technologies available today."

NEEMIE 2023 served as a platform for entrepreneurs to gain access to state-of-the-art equipment, technology, and ideas from across India. The event featured networking opportunities, insights on funding sources, and expert speeches and seminars aimed at boosting regional businesses.

Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Executive Director of MBMA (Meghalaya Basin Management Agency) and PRIME Meghalaya, described the exhibition as a pioneering initiative. She explained, "Our units are smaller in size, thus we need smaller and more specialized devices to satisfy the needs of farmers and entrepreneurs. We have brought in exhibitors who are experts in machinery and packaging to present their expertise and try to connect with our locals so they can utilize the technology and make full use of it."

Entrepreneurs, innovative businesses, and groups from across India, including Ghaziabad, New Delhi, Gujarat, Cochin, Assam, and Nagaland, actively participated in NEEMIE 2023. They showcased their best equipment and established valuable connections with local enterprises, facilitating business development and innovation exchange.

Meghalaya's dedication to promoting entrepreneurship and innovation through initiatives like NEEMIE underscores its commitment to economic growth and development in the North East region. The event's success demonstrates the potential for collaboration and growth among businesses and entrepreneurs in the area.
