An entrepreneur from Assam has created a momentous buzz in the business and tech landscape with his AI-powered customer care venture, which has recently crossed the Rs.100 crore revenue landmark.

The innovative platform, focused on converting customer service using artificial intelligence, has rapidly gained attention for its competence and scalability, enticing major clients across industries.

Jyotirmoy Chakravorty (JC), the Founder and CEO of Ubona Technologies, has built a career at the intersection of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Hailing from a small town in Assam and now heading one of India’s most progressive AI customer engagement companies, JC’s story is one of quiet persistence, deep insight, and a relentless drive to solve real-world problems through technology.

From Dhubri to Bangalore: A Journey Rooted in Values

Born and raised in Dhubri, a serene town in Assam, JC grew up in a household that valued education and discipline. “I learned purpose and resilience from my father, who was a teacher,” he shares. After completing his schooling at Boys’ Higher Secondary School and later graduating from Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, JC began his career with Assam Oil in Digboi.

His change to the tech world came serendipitously when he joined CMC Ltd., a high-profile public sector IT company at the time. That chance kindled his desire for technology. It wasn’t long before he moved to Bangalore to work with Wipro, marking the start of his deep involvement in India’s tech revolution.

After gaining experience with Wipro and later eCapital and July Systems, JC co-founded Ubona Technologies in 2008.

Motivation and the Birth of Ubona

What drove him to start his own venture? JC’s motivation was rooted in a desire to create technology that connects people meaningfully. “Communication is the foundation of trust. While data and AI evolve, voice remains the most human way to communicate,” he says.

Ubona’s mission is to blend cutting-edge intelligence with human understanding, creating platforms that turn spoken intent into action. From day one, the company has focused on conversational automation, AI-powered contact centers, and speech analytics—building trust at scale in multiple languages and dialects. For JC, the goal has never just been building a product; it’s about building a legacy that listens, responds, and simplifies human experience.

Bangalore: A Catalyst for Innovation

JC credits Bangalore as an inseparable part of his entrepreneurial story. “When I moved here, it was the dawn of India’s IT revolution. The energy was electric—full of ambition and ideas,” he recalls. The city not only offered an inspiring ecosystem but also brought him in contact with like-minded co-founders who would help bring Ubona to life.

“Startups here were being born in cafés and garages,” he says. “And I was lucky to witness them grow. Bangalore gave me the space to dream, the people to build with, and the inspiration to keep going.”

Strong Numbers, Stronger Values

Ubona Technologies today has crossed Rs.100 crore in annual revenue and continues to expand. With a projected run rate of  Rs. 200 crore by Financial Year 2025-26, the company has upheld profitability from the beginning. Rather than distributing profits, JC and his team reinvest earnings into research, innovation, and deep tech capabilities, guaranteeing the company remains future-ready.

Serving Diverse Sectors with Custom AI Solutions

From banking and insurance to e-commerce and telecom, Ubona serves a wide range of industries. JC explains that each sector has different needs: “For banks, it's compliance and security; for e-commerce, it’s speed and scale. Our platform is highly configurable—we tailor the business logic, languages, and interaction modes to suit each client’s goals.”

Ubona’s solutions are multilingual, omnichannel, and designed with enterprise-grade security. This adaptability allows the company to deliver measurable value across industries while keeping customer experience at the center.

Standing Apart in a Competitive Market

In a crowded market that includes global names like Twilio and Freshworks, how does Ubona stand out?

“We don’t see them as direct competitors,” JC says. “In fact, we sometimes integrate their tools into our stack.” What sets Ubona apart is its customer-first approach—a business model aligned with client success and a commitment to solving real problems with honest, data-driven iterations.

Ubona’s vision isn't about competing on features but on impact. “We want to show up as trusted problem solvers, not just vendors.”

The Role of Education and Experience

Reflecting on his education, JC credits Assam Engineering College not only for technical knowledge but for exposing him to broader perspectives and lasting friendships. “It shaped how I think and how I lead,” he says.

His professional stints also played a vital role. Wipro taught him the value of discipline, sincerity, and quality, while July Systems instilled the urgency and agility of a startup. “One gave me roots, the other gave me wings,” he says. These experiences now influence every aspect of Ubona’s culture and decision-making.

Looking Ahead: A Global Vision

JC sees the next five years as pivotal. Ubona aims to expand to international markets, strengthen its CX (customer experience) stack, and become a top global player. “Our goal is to be the most reliable and intelligent voice in customer communication,” he says.

Product development will focus on multilingual automation, real-time analytics, and seamless integrations with enterprise systems. The company is also investing in scalable, secure infrastructure to support its growing global clientele.

The Future of AI and Voice

AI and voice technologies are no longer just tools—they’re transforming how businesses engage with people. JC trusts the future lies in systems that understand emotion, context, and intent—engaging customers like a trusted human would.

“India is diverse in language and culture. If AI can speak your language and understand your needs, it builds a connection,” he says. Ubona continues to invest in deep tech, scalable architecture, and a robust language stack to lead this development.

Leadership and Culture: Listening, Trust, and Curiosity

As a leader with over 30 years of experience, JC’s style is rooted in listening, trust, and curiosity. “Some of the best ideas come from unexpected places,” he says. “I make sure people feel safe, inspired, and excited to take ownership.”

For him, fostering innovation means creating space—to question, to explore, and to learn. “Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking the right questions and letting your team thrive.”

From a small-town boy in Assam to a tech entrepreneur leading a global AI venture, Jyotirmoy Chakravorty’s journey is both inspiring and instructive. Through Ubona Technologies, he’s proving that with clarity of purpose, empathy in leadership, and a deep confidence in the power of communication, technology can certainly bring people closer
