Guwahati: The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden announce the arrival of several new animals as part of an animal exchange program with the National Zoological Park in New Delhi. These new additions are set to enhance the zoo’s biodiversity and offer visitors a unique experience.
Zoo authorities spoke to Business North East who said “ it is an exchange programme. Hence, no money was sanctioned for it. We expect that more and more visitors come in and enjoy the experience”
Among the most intriguing newcomers are a pair of leucistic black buck, notable for their rare white coloration caused by leucism. This unique pair will captivate visitors with their striking appearance and contribute to the zoo's efforts in showcasing diverse wildlife.
In addition to the black buck, the zoo has welcomed a pair of exotic blue and gold macaws. These vibrant and colorful birds will join the existing avian collection, adding to the zoo’s diversity and offering bird enthusiasts a chance to observe these beautiful creatures up close.
The zoo has also received a female one-horned rhino and a female tiger, both of which are crucial for the zoo's captive breeding programs. The one-horned rhino, an endangered species, and the majestic female tiger will play a significant role in the zoo’s conservation efforts, aimed at preserving these magnificent animals and educating the public about their natural habitats and the challenges they face in the wild.
