Indian Railways has opened a new riverside restaurant called Guwahati Greens in Amingaon, offering a peaceful and high-quality dining involvement for both locals and travellers.
Located near the Brahmaputra River, this restaurant is part of a larger plan to make better use of railway land, by turning idle places into public places that endorse tourism and help earn revenue.
Guwahati Greens, launched by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), is more than just a place to eat. It demonstrates how Indian Railways is reassessing how it uses its land by creating spaces that profit the community.
Built near Amingaon Railway Station, this restaurant is meant to improve passenger experience and make smarter use of railway property. “This is a step toward better use of our assets,” said an NFR official at the launch event.
“Guwahati Greens brings people closer to nature, the river, and good food — all in one place.”
The restaurant serves a variety of dishes including Assamese, North Indian, and other multi-cuisine options. It has a semi-open design with outdoor seating that gives a beautiful view of the Brahmaputra, a perfect spot for evening meals, family outings, or relaxed dinners.
It is situated near the Army Camp in Lachitpur, along the Guwahati-Hajo Road, and is open every day from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
It’s easy to spread from both Amingaon Railway Station and IIT Guwahati, making it popular among rail passengers, students, and locals. For those who wish eating at home, food delivery is accessible through Zomato and Swiggy.
Guwahati Greens is a great example of how Indian Railways is modernising its services and using idle land in smart ways.
The restaurant not only adds to the city’s dining options but also helps create jobs and sanctions eco-friendly growth.
This project shows Indian Railways’ promise to refining public facilities and creating long-term value from its large network and land.
