Aizawl: Minister for Home Affairs and Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA), Pu K. Sapdanga, inaugurated Aizawl Smart City Ltd on Tuesday. The minister also conducted an inspection of various activities under the State Investment Program Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU).
During his visit, Sapdanga toured several key locations, including the City Centre in Dawrpui, Multipurpose Ground, High Field, the 37 MLD Water Treatment Plant, Setlak, the Solid Waste Management Centre in Luangmual, the Plastic Waste Management Centre in Luangmual, and the Tuivamit Playground.
The City Centre in Dawrpui is currently facing challenges with importing goods, but the government has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring employment opportunities for the local population.
The 37 MLD Water Treatment Plant, which was damaged by Cyclone Remal, is set to resume operations on April 27, pumping 10 million liters of clean water daily. This project has already started supplying water to neighborhoods served by the Laipuitlang water tank. Additionally, road repairs have been completed, and materials were sent to Guwahati for further construction, though a completion date for flood damage repairs remains uncertain.
The 37 MLD Water Treatment Plant is crucial for meeting Aizawl city's drinking water needs. Several drinking water pumps have been activated in this area to ensure a steady supply. Sapdanga was accompanied by Pu CC Lalchhuangkima, CEO of Aizawl Smart City Ltd, along with other officials during the inspection.
