Guwahati: The Department of Agriculture is promoting a mobile application, which was launched by the Centre, that will help in spreading awareness of the crop insurance scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, among farmers.

The app, which is available on Google Playstore, was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare.

A farmer first needs to register and can log in for policies. One can also continue without login.
The app opens with a welcome message for the farmer.

Here they can see the status of their insurance policy, know their insurance premium, etc. They can also report crop loss and demand cover for the same. There is also a help centre for the farmers too.

As soon as the farmer reports their hazards in the app, immediately the complaint reaches the insurance company and the state government. The insurance can be claimed in both Rabi and Kharif seasons.

The officials of the Department of Agriculture informed Business Northeast that the crop insurance app existed but now it is being publicised.

The number of beneficiaries depends on the season. Last year, the enrolment of Rabi farmers was as high as 2.5 lakhs.
The insurance companies involved in Assam are Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited, Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC), State Bank of India (SBI), Future Generali India Life and General Insurance Company Limited and Reliance General Insurance.
