Kohima: The Government of Nagaland has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s Hutah Industries for the purchase of power from a 10MW Biomass Power Plant located at AK Industrial Village at Ganeshnagar in the state.

The power plant will be developed by M/s Hutah Industries in an Independent Power Producers (IPP) mode.

During the signing ceremony held in Kohima, Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye emphasised the importance of developing power generation within the state to meet power demands, boost industrial activities, and reduce the reliance on external power imports.

Kenye also suggested exploring tie-ups with the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) due to the bamboo-fired nature of the project. This collaboration could stimulate local employment opportunities.

Aditya Pandit, CEO and CFO of M/s Hutah Industries, provided an overview of the project. He mentioned that the power plant would utilise bamboo as its primary fuel source, with the raw bamboo material grown within the project area itself.

The company has already leased 1,500 acres of land for 25 years to facilitate this initiative. Pandit stated that the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the date of signing the PPA.

Pandit also highlighted that this project represents a collective commitment to harness renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable future for the state of Nagaland.

Engineer-in-Chief of the Power Department Moa Aier acknowledged the previous PPAs but noted that the progress had been lacking in the field. He expressed optimism that the current PPA with M/s Hutah Industries could set a positive trend and mark the beginning of a successful project.
