As the city gears up for the 78th Independence Day celebrations, Business Northeast conducted a survey across various stalls and wholesale shops selling Independence Day items to gauge the sales trends this year compared to the previous year. The results reveal a mixed scenario, with some vendors reporting a decline in customer footfall, while wholesalers indicate a significant increase in sales. Vendors at various stalls in Guwahati have observed a noticeable decrease in customer turnout compared to last year.

Many stall owners shared that the sales of flags, badges, and other patriotic merchandise have not picked up as expected. In contrast, wholesalers have reported a positive trend, with sales up by 30 to 40 percent compared to the previous year. This uptick in sales is primarily attributed to bulk purchases by retailers and organizations preparing for large-scale celebrations. Business North East also spoke to the public to understand their plans for Independence Day. Many expressed their excitement for the celebrations, with plans ranging from attending flag hoisting ceremonies to participating in cultural events. Some citizens also mentioned their intention to visit historical sites and engage in community activities to mark the occasion.
