Guwahati: Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, the newly appointed Minister of State for Education and Development of the North East Region (DoNER), is set to visit Assam on September 19th and 20th. This will be his first official tour of the region since taking office.

During his visit, Dr. Majumdar will attend an event at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Guwahati, where he will inaugurate two key research facilities: the Central Animal Facility (CAF) and the In-vitro Drug Testing Facility. These facilities, sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) under the Science and Technology Interventions in the North Eastern Region (STINER) program, are expected to strengthen research capabilities and drive pharmaceutical advancements in the region.

In addition, Dr. Majumdar will conduct a review meeting with representatives from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Guwahati to assess the state of higher education in Assam. The meeting aims to explore potential improvements and ensure that educational standards in the region align with national and international benchmarks.

Later in the day, Dr. Majumdar will visit Gauhati University, where he will inaugurate the newly constructed Centre for Brahmaputra Studies Building. This center is set to become a focal point for research on the Brahmaputra River, promoting interdisciplinary studies and contributing to sustainable regional development. Following the inauguration, Dr. Majumdar will participate in a program organized by the Brahmaputra Study Circle, engaging with scholars and stakeholders to discuss key issues related to the river and its impact on the region.

Dr. Majumdar’s visit highlights the government's continued efforts to promote educational and research excellence in the North East, accelerating the region’s overall development.
