Itanagar: There is an urgent need to focus on the welfare of the working class, said Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein during the valedictory session of the 63rd Labour Economics Conference under the Indian Society of Labour Economics at Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, Papum Pare in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.
Mein urged the attendees to consider the various labour economics problems and propose workable remedies that would help the Indian working class. Former President Varahagiri Venkata Giri founded the Indian Society of Labor in 1957 to advance labour economics study, education, and training, as well as to contribute to labour and employment-related policies. Since its founding, the society has played a significant role in supplying knowledge about labour markets and labour assistance programmes.
Speaking at the event, Mein recognised the importance of such yearly workshops in providing a focused forum for the exchange of knowledge by experts and the development of workable solutions to help India reach its goal of becoming Atma Nirbhar. He said that the Government of India is on the right track to enhancing the working circumstances of labourers across the country while boosting our economic development in reference to the labour changes and policies presently being put into place.
Mein also discussed how unemployment has become a worldwide occurrence and how the government of Arunachal Pradesh is addressing the problem by giving young people job chances through the Arunachal Pradesh Entrepreneurship Development Program (APEDP).
The Arunachal Pradesh Innovation and Investment Park was established to encourage and assist young Arunachal Pradesh entrepreneurs who are starting their own companies and achieving success. Mein mentioned the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swalamban Yojana and the Chief Minister's Paryatan Vikash Yojana in addition to the fact that the government of Arunachal Pradesh provides a 40% front-ended capital investment subsidy to the jobless youths to start small and medium businesses.
Mein pointed out that the state government is prioritising women and farmers in the state by providing them with improved means of livelihood chances through sectors like agro-processing units, in addition to encouraging adolescents to pursue entrepreneurship.
The Deputy Chief Minister addressed the audience of distinguished economists and academics present during the programme, bringing up the problems of migratory labour, highland farmland, and unorganised labour.
He exhorted them to support the state in addressing such problems and work together to inspire local youth to take on the duties of an ideal citizen, which would give the area's rural communities a much-needed facelift.
He voiced the expectation that the ISLE would develop a number of additional cutting-edge solutions to labour and unemployment problems and share the insightful outcomes of the conference that could help the State Government create an even more effective economic policy.
The three-day ISLE Conference attracted over 400 delegates from different institutions across the nation and overseas.
