Tripura aims uninterrupted Power Supply with major infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1,155 Crore

Agartala: Tripura, a power-surplus state, has been experiencing power outages and load shedding across the state, causing public discontent.

While the public has expressed frustration towards the government, the Tripura government has undertaken several projects aimed at improving the Power Department and ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply.

Speaking on the issue, Tripura Power Department official Abhishek Singh told Business North East that the state government is working on multi-pronged programs to guarantee a stable power supply for electricity consumers. Projects worth Rs 1,155 crore, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank, are underway to develop the state's power infrastructure.

Singh mentioned that the current electricity supply in the state is 457 MW, while the demand is around 362 MW. The department is placing special emphasis on implementing various central projects to enhance the state's electricity infrastructure.

"A new 132 KV sub-station has already been set up at Bisramganja in Sepahijala District under the NEC project and will be commissioned soon. The extension of the 132/33 KV sub-station at Bodhjungnagar in West District under the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti project is in progress, with an expenditure of Rs 2.43 crore. Construction of transmission lines from Suryamaninagar to Manarchak and from Suryamaninagar to Rukhiya is also underway under the Special Financial Assistance Scheme of the State Government, with a total expenditure of Rs 34.73 crore," he said.

The official reiterated that the Rs 1,155 crore project, supported by the Asian Development Bank, is a significant step towards developing the power infrastructure in the state.
