Agartala: The Tripura government has submitted a ₹150 crore proposal to the Central government for the development of three major tourist destinations in the state.
A senior official from Tripura Tourism told Business North East (BNE) that the proposal was submitted during Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury’s recent visit to New Delhi.
“The state government is committed to transforming Tripura into a premier tourism hub with continuous support from the Centre. We have been actively working to enhance the tourism sector. Both the central and state governments, along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), are collaborating to put Tripura on the global tourism map,” the official said.
He added that during the visit, the Tripura Tourism Minister, along with other officials, met Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for further tourism development.
“We have proposed three key projects: a ₹70 crore plan for Jampui Hills in North District, focusing on the redevelopment of Eden Tourist Lodge and the introduction of adventure tourism; a ₹50 crore proposal for the Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeer Experience in Jirania subdivision, West District; and a ₹30 crore plan for Mystic Plantation Retreat at Lakhilunga Tea Estate, also in West District. The Union Minister assured us that these projects would be sanctioned after March,” the official stated.

He further highlighted the various initiatives taken by the state government to boost Tripura’s tourism sector.
"Two days ago, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Tripura government and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), a Tata Group entity, for setting up the state’s first five-star hotel at Puspabanta Palace, formerly the Governor’s House. This marks a significant step in enhancing tourism infrastructure," he added.
