Guwahati: Topcem, one of the largest cement companies in India, distributed stationery items to children in Guwahati as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign.

A Topcem official informed Business North East that they distributed approximately 12,000 pencils, 7,000 pens and 1,200 notebooks based on a proposal by the local NGO ‘Utsah.’  The official added that the company had spent around Rs 2-3 lakh on this latest venture.

The official, speaking at the occasion, emphasized the fundamental right of every child to education, expressing gratitude to ‘Utsah’ for providing the platform for the “meaningful event.”

Members of ‘Utsah’ actively participated in the event alongside representatives from the beneficiary institutions.

The deliveries were made to 10 childcare homes across Guwahati on the occasion of Children’s Day, held each year on the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country.

These included the Kalyani Niwas, Sishu Kalyan Sadan, Jalukbari, Open Shelter Home for Boys, UTSAH Education, Ashaneer Home, among others.

“Since its inception in 2021, this initiative by Topcem has been a beacon of hope for more than 500 students from underprivileged backgrounds. The primary objective of this ongoing drive is to bridge the educational resource gap for these children, ensuring that they have access to essential materials,” an official told BNE.
