The Save Bharalu (Bharalu Bachao) Abhiyan has announced that preparations are underway for ant awareness camp in Guwahati on Sunday, September 22nd, in honor of World River Day. A human chain event is scheduled to take place at four key locations along the Bahini-Bharalu river: Rukminigaon (Bahini River banks), Jonali (RG Baruah Road), Chilarai Nagar (Ulubari), and Pragjyotish College.

Dr. Mazumder, a key figure in the campaign, shared that the event will feature an audio-visual presentation focusing on the objectives and themes of World River Day. "Local organizations and citizens will actively participate in the rally and awareness camp," he added. "It is critical to save the ecosystem as it forms the foundation for sustainable urban development. Protecting our rivers and reducing deforestation is essential for the well-being of future generations. By encouraging tree plantation, we can help restore ecological balance and ensure a cleaner, healthier environment."

Urban ecosystems are crucial for a city’s sustainable development. The protection of rivers like the Bharalu is not only about preserving water bodies but also about maintaining the overall health of the city’s natural environment. Waterways support biodiversity, regulate local climates, and prevent flooding, making them vital to a city's infrastructure. However, rapid urbanization, deforestation, and pollution have compromised these natural assets.

Efforts like the Save Bharalu campaign emphasize the need to protect and rehabilitate these ecosystems. Reforestation initiatives and public awareness drives can significantly reduce environmental degradation, ensuring that cities grow while maintaining a balance with nature. The future of urban spaces lies in eco-friendly development practices that prioritize environmental health alongside economic and infrastructural growth.
