Agartala: The Arunachal Pradesh Government, along with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the riverfront development of Parshuram Kund, including infrastructure upgrades.
Parshuram Kund is a Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Telu Shati (also known as Tailung) area of the Mishmi plateau, in the lower reaches of the Lohit River. The pilgrimage site covers approximately 48 km from Tezu, the headquarters of Lohit District in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Parshuram Kund Mela, a focal point of Makar Sankranti celebrations on January 14 and 15, has been held annually in the Telu Shati area of Lohit District since 1972.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently conducted an on-site inspection of the riverfront development project at Parshuram Kund to review ongoing infrastructure improvements to enhance facilities for the upcoming 2025 Parshuram Kund Mela. The inspection covered key developments such as - the construction of a guest house, a pilgrims’ lodge, and upgrades to existing structures.

After the site visit, Chowna Mein convened a meeting with the District Administration and the Parshuram Kund Development Trust to discuss logistical arrangements for the event. In preparation for the expected influx of pilgrims during Makar Sankranti in January, he directed authorities to arrange accommodations for at least 2,000 pilgrims per night.
"Our goal is to ensure a seamless experience for all visitors, prioritizing comfort and safety," Chowna Mein stated.
Reaffirming the State's vision to establish Parshuram Kund as Northeast India's largest pilgrimage destination, Chowna Mein announced an additional Rs 50 crore to be allocated by the State Government to bolster infrastructure. This supplements the Rs 50 crore previously sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER.
