Assam CM distributes appointment letters to 240 assistant engineers for PWD and 599 candidates for ASRLM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday handed over appointment letters to 240 assistant engineers who will be recruited to the Public Works Department and 599 candidates recruited through the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, raising the total number of new recruits to 88,080.

Addressing the newly appointed individuals, CM Sarma highlighted the diverse employment avenues available to the youth apart from government sector. "Many young people have found opportunities in organizations such as the National Health Mission, Sarvasiksha Abhiyan, and the State Rural Livelihood Mission, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the region", he said.

Sarma also announced financial support for women self-help groups. He stated that members of these groups would receive Rs 10,000 each to help them establish their own enterprises.

Sarma expressed pride in Assam's rapid development across various sectors in recent years. Comparing the state's public sector investments, he stated that in 2016, it stood at Rs 42,000 crores, and today it has surged to Rs 1,30,000 crores "reflecting a growing interest and confidence of investors in the state's potential."

Highlighting the government's commitment to infrastructure development, the CM mentioned projects such as the Nehru Stadium, Kamakhya Temple corridor development, and the six-laning of the road between Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and Gauhati University. Sarma said that the newly appointed assistant engineers in the PWD would play a key role in the execution of these projects.
