Guwahati: Oil India Limited (OIL) and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the "Industry-Academia Collaboration Project on Establishment of a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) Plant" to promote sustainable energy development in the region.

The agreement was inked by Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Managing Director of OIL, and Professor A.S.K. Sinha, Director of RGIPT, during a formal signing ceremony held at the NRL Center in Guwahati on December 2, 2023.

This collaboration marks the inaugural step in a joint effort between OIL and RGIPT to establish a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant. The plant, with a production capacity of 5 Tons Per Day (TPD), is slated to be set up at the premises of the Assam Energy Institute (AEI) in Sibsagar, a center of RGIPT located in Jais, Uttar Pradesh.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India's mission to promote green and clean energy under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme. OIL and RGIPT will work hand-in-hand to facilitate land-lease agreements and other necessary arrangements for the establishment and operation of the CBG plant.

Under the MoU, both the organisatons have committed to provide technical and administrative support, as well as engage the students in research and development initiatives within the realm of biogas and its derivatives. The CBG plant's feedstock is proposed to be a blend of cow dung, market waste, and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), demonstrating a commitment to sustainable waste management practices.

This collaboration stride towards achieving India's renewable energy goals and advancing environmentally friendly solutions for a cleaner and greener future. This partnership not only underscores the commitment of these entities to innovation but also their shared dedication to promoting sustainable energy practices in line with national objectives.
