The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Prayas Chakravorty, Deputy General Manager of Oil India Ltd (OIL) based at Duliajan and Jyoti Kumar Singh, DGM (Sales & Marketing) of Noida-based United Drilling Tools Ltd, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 7 lakh.
The case, registered on May 3, named four accused — Chakravorty, Singh, Kunal Gupta (Managing Director of United Drilling Tools Ltd), the company itself, and unknown public servants. The accused allegedly sought undue advantage to facilitate the award of contracts and bill clearances in exchange for bribes, causing loss to the exchequer, according to the CBI.
Chakravorty reportedly demanded 70 grams of gold ornaments from Singh but later agreed to accept Rs. 7 lakh in cash. He used Rs. 3.73 lakh of the bribe to purchase gold coins in Noida and carried the remaining ₹3.34 lakh in cash. CBI officials caught him red-handed with the cash and purchase documents, said a CBI press release on May 5.
