New Delhi: The ministries of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) and AYUSH have begun preparations for International Day of Yoga 2024. In the lead up to the event, the Ministry of I&B is organizing various program activities to raise awareness about the common yoga protocol (CYP) and its benefits.

Key activities include broadcasting programs through Doordarshan (DD) and the All India Radio (AIR) networks, promoting yoga as a way of life and overall wellness, and preparing a 'yoga geet' for sharing across all media platforms.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is also encouraging private media organizations with Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS), which recognizes the contribution of media houses in print, TV, and radio in spreading the message of yoga. The awards for this year and last year will be presented after the completion of the celebrations.

The New Media Wing (NMW) will conduct activities like a 'yoga with family' contest, a 'yoga quiz - guess the aasan', and the release of the IDY 2024 podcast. Additionally, various media units and organizations will organize sessions, workshops, yoga camps, seminars, and other events to promote yoga and wellness among employees.

The scale and level of celebration of IDY have been increasing every year since June 21 was recognized as 'International Yoga Day.' Narendra Modi, who will take oath as the Prime Minister for his third term this Sunday, has been at the forefront of efforts to take Yoga to the world, leading the festivities at the UN headquarters in 2023. The event has also seen new initiatives, such as the 'ocean ring of yoga', which saw naval personnel from 19 ships across 34 countries participate in yoga demonstrations.
