New Delhi: A five-day cultural extravaganza, unveiling the riches of Northeast India, is set to illuminate the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from January 13-17.
The 'Uttar Purvi Mahotsav: A Cultural Odyssey' is being managed and organised by Northeastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), an MDoNER corporation incorporated in 1977 that "attempts to develop and promote the indigenous crafts of the region by connecting craftsmen to prospective markets and consumers", said an official release.
This inaugural event will be designed to showcase the rich diversity of Northeast India, blending traditional arts, crafts, and cultures under a single umbrella.
"Envisioned as a cultural mosaic, Uttar Purvi Mahotsav is more than a celebration; it's a platform for economic opportunities", said the release, adding that the festival will aim to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings.
Over 200 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs will take part in the event which will feature exhibitions of Geographical Indication (GI) products and sustainable crafts from Northeast India. In this context, Uttar Purvi Mahotsav emerges as a key platform—a vibrant tapestry that showcases the diversity of Northeast India and serves as a commercial celebration of crafts, art, and culture from the entire region.
The Uttar Purvi Mahotsav will also serve as a platform to showcase the unique aspects that make the Northeast region a "cultural jewel", said the release, adding that it is a "one-of-a-kind initiative to connect the region with the mainstream as per the vision of Act East through North East India." a land of immense potential and possibilities.
Several unique activities and dances unique to the Northeastern region and scintillating musical performances will enthrall audiences at the festival, an official familiar with the developments informed Business North East.
