Shillong: Sauramandala, an NGO that was set up in 2018, is helping young start-ups in rural Meghalaya make a mark.
Sauramandala works closely with the Meghalaya government in promoting the benefits offered under the latter’s PRIME scheme for entrepreneurship.

The PRIME Sauramandala Rural Entrepreneurship Fellowship offers “an opportunity to young change-makers from across the country” and works closely with rural entrepreneurs in Meghalaya to build and scale their enterprises. Sauramandala mentors them in all aspects across different stages of their entrepreneurial journey.

Recently in a tweet, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “The Prime Sauramandala Rural Entrepreneurship Fellowship program is encouraging rural entrepreneurship in Meghalaya through end to end handholding of entrepreneurial ventures in 8 districts of the state. Happy to learn about the grassroot (sic) impact of this initiative.”

Sangma has also asked the Sauramandala and PRIME teams to implement the programme in all districts.

Sauramandala has a four-way approach to connect with potential young entrepreneurs. It first builds a rapport with communities and various stakeholders. It then maps entrepreneurs through village and block-level field visits. It selects entrepreneurs through diagnostics, case studies and business analysis and then offers holistic support throughout the entrepreneurial journey.

Meanwhile, Sangma recently held a meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Rural Development to review the implementation of various schemes under the ministry “focusing on our vision for the next 5 years in Social Infrastructure and Human Development”.

“We also discussed concerns faced at the grassroot (sic) in the implementation of the schemes & support that the Ministry can consider to redress the same,” he tweeted.
