New DoNER Minister Scindia shares his vision for Northeast's development

Guwahati: Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of the Department of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), on his first visit to Northeast, said that it will be his mission to realize the Prime Minister’s vision of purbodaya ( for this region to be the gateway of India’s progress.

He mentioned the huge increase in the outlay of funds for the region from Rs 24,000 crore to almost 82,000 crore. “[Development has been witnessed] from an Infrastructure point of view whether it is road, rail or civil aviation, the portfolio I have held in the last term, where we increased the number of airports from 9 to 17.” He described Northeast as a "repository" that will soon be showcased in front of the whole world.

"The Look East Policy will be now an Act East Policy and Northeast will be a pivot in that policy”, said the Minister. The Act East is a diplomatic initiative to promote economic, strategic and cultural relations with the vast Asia-Pacific region at different levels.

Business North East spoke to Chairman and Managing Director, NEDFi PVSLN Murty who said that the MDoNER Minister would also visit Shillong and inspect the North East Council. "He will also go through the Vision Document for the region", informed Murty. During his visit, Scindia also visited the North East Cane and Bamboo Council (NECBDC) and met women farmers in Shillong.

On Saturday, he is visiting the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) in Guwahati. NEDFi provides financial assistance to micro, small, medium and large enterprises for setting up industrial, infrastructure and agri-allied projects  

At NEDFi, Sciandia will be meeting some of the industrialists, and some beneficiaries of microlending and will also inspect the organization.
