Guwahati: The National Sample Survey Office (FOD) Regional Office Guwahati observed the 18th Statistics Day on June 29. The day is celebrated to honor the contributions of late Professor P.C. Mabhalanobis to the statistics and statistical system.

A virtual talk and discussion was held on the theme of "Use of Data in Decision Making," attended by senior officers from the NSSO, subordinate officers, and officers from the State DES, Assam, as well as teachers and students from colleges and universities.

The discussion began with a tribute to the Mabhalanobis and the importance of Statistics Day. The discussion also touched on financial data and Benford's Law, with Deputy Director Jishnu Datta highlighting the importance of data gaps in decision-making.

The discussion was based on NSSO's survey data, with humorous instances from experienced officers. The program concluded with an interactive session with a quiz game.
