Nagaland Chief Secretary chairs meeting on elimination of single-use plastic

Kohima: The Chief Secretary of Nagaland, J Alam, on Thursday, convened a meeting with senior officials to discuss the elimination of single-use plastic and undertake effective plastic waste management in the state. The meeting emphasized the menace of plastic waste and the need for an effective action plan. 

The members agreed to ban below one-liter water plastic bottles from August 1. They also decided to ban single-use carry bags, regardless of microns, in the state. Alam highlighted the recent Doyang reservoir flood, praising the efforts of the disaster management team, district administration, volunteers, and other agencies involved. 

He emphasized the need for long-term measures to effectively implement plastic waste management. The Chief Secretary called for intensive media campaigns, seminars, and workshops to spread awareness about the adverse effects of single-use plastic. 

He also reminded departments to properly document their activities through geotagging and updating their websites with pictures and videos. Various departments, including Urban Development, Municipal Affairs, Rural Development, and Pollution Control Board, shared their views and opinions during the meeting.
