Meghalaya's Pineapple, Bamboo Shoot Industries Has Immense Growth Potential: ICC Chairman

Guwahati: The Assam & Meghalaya State Council of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Chairman, Sarat Kr. Jain stated on November 30, 2024, that the northeastern region holds huge potential for growth in various sectors. 

Shedding light on ICC's contributions and initiatives, the ICC Chairman said, "I have been affiliated with the ICC for two years. Presently, the ICC is active in 22 countries, strengthening international relations. We organize interactive programs like Ease of Doing Business (EODB), where we recently engaged with Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, IAS, who shared his insights with ICC members and attendees."

In another similar event, Pallav Gopal Jha, IAS, Commissioner of Taxes, Assam, and Project Director, Assam, was invited to share his opinion during a GST program conducted by the ICC.

Highlighting some key economic opportunities, Sarat Kr. Jain remarked, "Meghalaya’s agriculture, particularly its pineapple and bamboo shoot industries, holds immense growth potential."

Moreover, speaking of the new semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, he said, "The upcoming semiconductor project will be pivotal for Assam's economic success."

He further encouraged investors to focus on agriculture, sericulture, and horticulture in the northeastern region. "The ICC is now planning an Exchange of Entrepreneurs initiative. Through this, Assam ICC members will visit Tamil Nadu ICC, and vice versa. This exchange will facilitate better understanding in Assam and Meghalaya's businesses and foster collaboration," he told Business North East.
