SEBI, NSE, NSDL Organises 'Mega RISA' Seminar To Educate Investors In Assam

Guwahati: In a significant effort to enhance investor awareness and safeguard investor interests in the securities market, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), under the aegis of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), organised the Mega RISA (Regional Investor Seminar for Awareness) at the Gauhati Medical College Auditorium.

With the theme ‘Viksit Bharat ka Viksit Niveshak’, the event aimed to educate investors about financial markets, fraud prevention, investor rights, and smart investing practices. 

Assam has emerged as a growing hub for investors, with over 24.6 lakh registered investors. The state ranks fifth in female investor participation across India, with 29.8 per cent of its investors being women. Investor growth in Assam has shown a sharp rise, tripling from 0.7 per cent  in 2019 to 2.3 per cent  in 2024.

The seminar provided crucial insights into financial literacy, risk management, and responsible investing to support this trend. The event featured expert-led panel discussions, interactive sessions, and engaging activities to make financial education more accessible.

Key sessions included:

"The Future of Securities Market – Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities" – Experts from SEBI and leading financial institutions shared insights on emerging market trends, risks, and opportunities.

‘Let’s Deep Dive into DEMAT’ – A detailed discussion on demat-related issues, cyber threats and unregulated investment risks.

Fraud Prevention Awareness – Investors were educated on identifying red flags in Ponzi schemes, unauthorised advisors, and digital scams.

Interactive Learning – The seminar included a financial quiz and a Nukkad Natak (street play) to make investor education more engaging.

With an overwhelming response from investors, financial professionals, doctors, and students, the event reinforced Assam’s growing interest in securities markets and empowered participants with the knowledge needed for informed financial decisions. ​
